"Rounds Complete, Mission Accomplished" In Memory of
Samuel J. Bifano
and the men of the 324th Field Artillery Batallion, 83rd Infantry Division
(1917 - 1994)
The inspiration for this memorial was born shortly after I finished reading Tom Brokaw's
"The Greatest Generation." Dad, like most World War II veterans, rarely talked about the
war, but he was a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the 83rd Division Veterans
Association and attended the association's reunions fairly frequently. I remember our
family visiting a number of his friends in the Philadelphia area during the late 1950's and
1960's. His friends rarely talked about the war either--at least, not around the children.
They were just ordinary guys to me just like Dad. Ordinary men who had accomplished
extraordinary feats.
